Scan and print labels by product SKU

Streamline your packing process for single-item orders by scanning product barcodes to automatically find and process the correct order. This approach saves time and reduces errors.

Skip printing packing slips for single-item orders. Instead, grab a batch of products, bring them to your packing station, and scan each product's barcode. If an order exists for that item, the system will automatically print the shipping label, allowing you to immediately pack the item and apply the label.

Key benefits

  • Eliminates packing slips: No more printing and sorting packing slips for single-item orders.
  • Streamlines packing: Simply scan the product, and the system finds and processes the matching order, printing the label automatically.
  • Boosts efficiency: Reduces the time spent manually matching orders to products, allowing you to pack more orders, faster.
  • Minimises errors: Ensures that the correct label is always applied to the right product, reducing packing mistakes.

How it works

  1. Generate Packing Summary: Start by generating a packing summary for all single-item orders in the system. This gives you a list of the SKUs you need to pick and bring to the packing station.
  2. Pick the Items: Bring all the required SKUs to the packing station based on your summary. This allows you to process all the orders without needing to reference each individual packing slip.
  3. Select Workflow Mode:
    • Go to the Workflows (UI 2.0) or Quick Print (classic UI) page in Starshipit.
    • Choose one of the following options:
      • Scan and open based on product barcode: This will open the oldest, unprinted order for that SKU.
      • Scan and print based on product barcode: This will automatically print the label for the oldest, unprinted order when the product's barcode is scanned.
  4. Scan the Barcode: Scan the barcode of the product at your packing station. The system will automatically identify and retrieve the oldest order that hasn't been printed yet for that SKU.
  5. Automatic Order Handling:
    • If you chose Scan and print, the label will print immediately for the order.
    • If you chose Scan and open, the order details will appear on-screen for further action.
  6. Finish packing: When there are no remaining single-item orders for that SKU, you will receive an on-screen notification.

This workflow eliminates the need for you to manually look for packing slips or sort through multiple orders, speeding up your packing process and reducing errors.
