Cancellation options with Starshipit

1. Before manifesting

If the order hasn't been manifested:

  1. In Starshipit, go to the Orders screen.
  2. Select the order with the label you want to cancel.
  3. Click Actions and choose Archive.

Archiving removes the order from your active orders list but retains it in your records.

Warning

Archiving does not cancel the label or refund shipping fees. You must cancel the label through the carrier settings in Starshipit or the carrier's portal (where applicable).

2. After manifesting

Warning

Before cancelling a label, make sure you're cancelling the right one!

If you've reprinted, cloned, or redone a label, there may be multiple labels for the same order. Don't rely solely on the Starshipit app to determine which tracking number to cancel (e.g. cancelling the one in the Archive tab). It's possible that the archived label was the one actually applied to the parcel.

Cancelling a label that's already in the delivery network can lead to the parcel still being delivered and may incur return-to-sender fees or penalties. Always check which label was applied, ideally by checking the physical parcel before cancelling.

If the order has already been manifested:

  • You must contact your carrier directly to request cancellation. Some carriers still allow cancellations post-manifest if the parcel hasn't been scanned.
  • To cancel the shipment in Starshipit (where supported), go to:
    1. Settings > Your Carrier Settings > Tools.
    2. Enter the tracking number to cancel the shipment.

Why you can't delete printed labels

Once a label is printed, Starshipit retains it for the following reasons:

  • Record keeping
It ensures you have a reference in case the shipment goes out unintentionally.
  • Carrier compliance
Carriers may require a valid tracking reference for shipments, even if unmanifested.

If you’ve made a mistake:

  • Redo the shipping by creating a new label.
  • Archive the incorrect order.
Note

Re-doing shipping may trigger writeback to your eCommerce platform (e.g., Shopify or WooCommerce). Ensure you're aware of the impact this could have on fulfilment statuses.

FAQs

Can I cancel a label after it’s printed?

Yes, but only if the order hasn't been manifested. You can archive it from the Orders screen. If it has been manifested, you’ll need to contact your carrier.

Why can’t I delete a label in Starshipit?

For compliance and technical reasons, Starshipit does not allow deletion of labels. They are also retained to prevent issues for example, if they end up in the courier system. This ensures you have tracking and manifest options if needed.

Will cancelling a label trigger a writeback?

Archiving does not trigger a writeback. However, redoing shipping might, depending on your integration settings.
