Overview
- You can use Starshipit to manage shipping dangerous goods with certain carriers.
- Dangerous goods are substances that are hazardous, meaning they have properties which could pose a risk to people, property or the environment. Common items like perfume and electronic equipment can be classed as dangerous goods, due to the chemicals and products they contain. This means there are tight controls over transporting dangerous goods.
- Read our blog to learn the different types of dangerous goods, how the Australian classification system works and how you can ship dangerous goods safely within Australia.
How it works
Starshipit supports sending dangerous goods with the following carriers. To start shipping dangerous goods using these carriers, check out the guides linked below:
Dangerous goods with Australia Post
Starshipit supports sending dangerous goods with eParcel Parcel post. We do not support Express Post. This is due to a rule from Australia Post, as there are tight restrictions around transporting dangerous goods.
Dangerous goods with NZ Post Domestic
Starshipit supports sending dangerous goods with NZ Post Domestic. You will first need to obtain approval from NZ Post by contacting your NZ Post account manager. Once approved, you will then be able to flag a shipment as dangerous goods in the order details page.
Create rules for dangerous goods
You can create a variety of different rules to create a dangerous goods shipping process that works for you. For example, you might want to add a tag to flag orders containing dangerous goods to your warehouse staff.
Classify orders containing dangerous goods
- In Starshipit, navigate to Settings > Rules.
- Click Add a new rule.
- Click Condition(s) > Item SKU > (Enter the SKUs of your dangerous goods items).
- Select Action > Set dangerous goods type Or Select Action > Set Contain Battery.
- Click Save.
Remove unsupported couriers at checkout
Some couriers won’t transport dangerous goods (for example flammable items or products that include batteries). Using Starshipit, you can create a rule to remove these couriers from the checkout if the cart contains a dangerous item.
- In Starshipit, navigate to Settings > Rules.
- Click Add a new rule.
- Click Condition(s) > Item SKU > (Enter the SKUs of your dangerous goods items).
- Select Action > Set Carriers for Checkout.
- Select the couriers you’d like to display in your checkout.
- Click Save.
