Scan to select packaging and carrier products

Overview

  • Using a barcode scanner to select packages for your orders is faster and more accurate than manually selecting them.
  • Simply scan a barcode for each package on your order, and the correct package will be updated automatically.
  • You can also scan to select carrier products to further streamline your shipping.
  • Barcodes can be generated using various tools, such as this one online.
  • This workflow is only supported on UI 2.0.

Before you begin

Follow the steps below to set up your barcodes for both packages and carrier products:

  1. Create package barcodes
    1. Set up your packages in Starshipit if you haven't already done so, and create a barcode sheet with a barcode for each package.
    2. Create a barcode sheet with a barcode for each package using the format: pkg_PackageName (where PackageName is the case-sensitive name you have assigned to each package in Starshipit). Any barcode that supports alphanumeric values will be valid.
  2. Create carrier product barcodes
Create a barcode sheet with a barcode for each package using the format: prd_ProductCode (where ProductCode is the case-sensitive product code of the courier service you intend to use in Starshipit). Any barcode that supports alphanumeric values will be valid.
  3. Recommended equipment
You will need a barcode scanner and a barcode sheet for all your packages and carrier products. Starshipit supports many types of scanners, but we recommend using something similar to the LS2208 General Purpose Barcode Scanner.
  4. Optional setup
You can print orders via a barcode scan by creating and scanning an act_print barcode to trigger the label printing process.

How it works

This feature provides an additional input box in the bottom left of the order details page. To use it, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Workflows page in Starshipit.
  2. Select Scan and open, Search for an order or Packing Validation.
  3. From the Workflow options, tick Scan to select packaging, carriers, and print labels.
  4. Scan the order number to open the order.
  5. Scan the barcode of the package to assign the correct package to the order.
  6. Scan the barcode of the carrier product to assign the shipping method.
  7. (Optional) Scan the act_print barcode to print the order label.

  8. Once the order is printed, you'll be redirected to Workflows to process your next order.

We recommend combining this feature with the Scan to open or Packing validation workflows for maximum efficiency. To learn more about these workflows, check out the following guides:
