Offer transparent pricing for international orders by calculating, charging, and remitting duties and taxes upfront.

When selling internationally, a common challenge is unexpected import costs. **Starshipit Landed Cost Guarantee (LCG)** removes guesswork by calculating, collecting, and remitting landed cost charges on your behalf so customers see the full cost at checkout and are not charged again on delivery.

:::note
Starshipit Landed Costs currently supports Shopify as the ecommerce platform integration.
:::

## What is a landed cost?

The landed cost is the total cost of getting an order from your store to the customer’s door. It includes:

* Product cost
* Shipping and insurance
* Customs duties
* Import taxes (e.g. VAT, GST)
* Handling and remittance fees

## What is Starshipit LCG?

Landed Cost Guarantee (LCG) ensures duties and taxes are calculated accurately and prepaid. You choose which destination countries use LCG; orders to those countries are automatically sent **DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)**. Other international orders can continue using standard non-DDP workflows.

:::note
Supported couriers: Australia Post, NZ Post, UPS, FedEx, DHL Express.
:::

## Pricing

| Fee type | Details |
| -------- | ------- |
| Annual fee | $1,000 USD per year |
| Starshipit LCG fee | 10% of the calculated landed costs per order |
| Billing cadence | Landed cost charges are invoiced through Starshipit. The Starshipit fees are included in the landed costs shown at checkout, so your customers cover these costs rather than paying them separately later. |

## How it works

Starshipit Landed Costs (LCG) automatically calculates and manages duty, tax, and fee components from checkout through to customs payment and reconciliation. Here’s an overview of how it works:

1. **Choose destination countries.** Select the markets where you want landed costs enabled. You can choose individual countries or all countries.
2. **Prepare product data.** Each product needs an HS code and country of origin so duties and taxes can be calculated accurately.
3. **Set up checkout rates.** Starshipit uses checkout rates to show duty and tax-inclusive shipping options to buyers.
4. **Submit an access request.** The Starshipit team reviews and enables landed costs on your account.
5. **Create DDP shipments.** For approved landed cost shipments, Starshipit sends the shipment as **DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)** so duties and taxes are paid by the sender rather than collected from the receiver.
6. **Review invoices and activity.** Use the in-app Landed costs area to review rate requests, invoice totals, and invoice PDFs.

## Set up landed costs (LCG)

:::warning
Before you start, each product must have a valid HS code and country of origin to ensure accurate duty calculations.
:::

1. Open [Landed costs in Starshipit UI 2.0](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/landed-costs?section=onboarding).
2. Open the **Setup** tab.
3. Read the introduction and pricing information, then click **Get started**.
4. Select the destination countries where you want landed costs enabled. Choose **All countries** if landed costs should apply everywhere.
5. Review the Zonos terms of service PDF, then tick **I have read and accept the landed-cost terms**.
6. Review the product readiness step. Starshipit checks your products for missing HS codes and missing country of origin values. You can continue even if some products still need attention, but those products should be fixed before you rely on landed cost calculations.
7. Review your checkout rates setup. Landed costs uses checkout rates to show duty and tax-inclusive options to buyers.
8. Submit your landed cost access request. The Starshipit team will review the request and enable landed costs on your account.

After you submit the request, the Landed costs page shows the status of your access request. You can return to [Landed costs in Starshipit UI 2.0](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/landed-costs?section=onboarding) to continue preparing products, reviewing rate requests, or checking invoices.

## Manage your products

Use the **Products** tab in [Landed costs in Starshipit UI 2.0](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/landed-costs?section=products) to review the product data used for tariff calculation and customs declarations.

:::warning
Required for accurate duties. Each SKU must have a valid HS code and country of origin. We'll flag anything that's missing and help you fill it in.
:::

### Review and update products

The Products tab shows your product catalogue with the product name, SKU, HS code, country of origin, status, and price.

You can:

* Search by product name, SKU, or barcode.
* Filter to all products, products that need attention, products missing an HS code, or products missing an origin.
* Edit the HS code and country of origin directly from the product table.
* Create a product manually.
* Import product data from a CSV.
* Download a CSV template.
* Export your products to CSV.
* Sync product data from Shopify.
* Select products and update their country of origin in bulk.
* Select products and click **Push to Starshipit** when you need to sync landed cost product data back to Starshipit.

### Get HS code suggestions

If a product is missing an HS code, use the product action menu to get HS code suggestions. Review the suggested code and description, then apply the code if it matches the product.

:::warning
HS code suggestions are a guide only. You are responsible for confirming the correct HS code for your products.
:::

## Set up checkout rates

To display landed costs at checkout, ensure you have Starshipit checkout rates enabled for each LCG country in your ecommerce platform, such as Shopify.

* Learn more [about checkout rates](/articles/rates-at-checkout/set-up-guides/about-live-rates-at-checkout-supported-couriers) and [how to set them up.](/articles/rates-at-checkout/set-up-guides/set-up-rates-at-checkout)

### Review rate requests

After approval, you can monitor shipping rate lookups from your store in the **Rate requests** tab. This shows how landed cost rates are being calculated and displayed to customers.

The summary shows:

* **Requests:** Total landed cost rate requests.
* **Errors:** Requests that returned an error.
* **Landed cost applied:** Requests where landed costs were included.
* **Avg response:** Average response time.

Use the search field to find requests by country, postcode, currency, or request ID. Open a request to review the destination, response timing, available shipping methods, total amount, tax amount, duty amount, and any errors.

## Review invoices

Use the **Invoices** tab to review your landed cost invoices. The invoice list shows the invoice number, created date, shipment count, total, status, and paid date.

Open an invoice to:

* Review invoice totals and shipment counts.
* Check whether the invoice is paid or pending.
* Send the invoice email again.
* Download the invoice PDF.

## Enable or disable landed costs

Use the **Settings** tab to check your landed cost status and turn landed costs on or off.

The status area shows:

* Whether the landed cost add-on is active.
* Whether landed costs are enabled for the account.
* Whether your application is pending or approved.
* When the application was submitted.

:::note
If your account has not been approved yet, or the landed cost add-on is not active, you may need to contact the Starshipit team before you can enable landed costs.

## Troubleshooting

**Missing or duplicate products after sync**

Search for the product in the **Products** tab in [Landed costs in Starshipit UI 2.0](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/landed-costs?section=products). If the product is still missing, check that it exists in your Starshipit product catalogue and has a valid SKU.

**No HS code suggestions appear**

Try refining the product title or description so the product can be classified more accurately, then request HS code suggestions again.

**Data didn’t update after syncing**

Refresh the Products tab. If you imported a CSV or synced from Shopify, check that the product SKU matches the product you intended to update.

**Not seeing rate data in Rates Requests**

Make sure checkout rates are configured and that your store has processed rate lookups since LCG was approved. Without activity, no data will appear.

**Checkout preview shows no rates**

LCG approval is required before landed costs appear in checkout rates. If rates are still blank after approval, check that checkout rates are active for all LCG countries and that the products have HS codes and countries of origin.

**Approval taking longer than expected**

Account approvals depend on courier verification. If it’s been more than two business days, contact [our support team](https://help.starshipit.com) for assistance.

**Can’t access Landed Costs**

Open [Landed costs in Starshipit UI 2.0](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/landed-costs?section=onboarding). If you cannot access the page or cannot enable landed costs, contact [our support team](https://help.starshipit.com) for assistance.
