# Connect a printer to your computer for Starshipit

Connect a physical printer to Windows or macOS before selecting it in the Starshipit Desktop App.

This article covers the operating-system step only. To configure Starshipit's routing and local printer mappings, follow [Understand how Starshipit printing works](/articles/90200000000155-understand-how-starshipit-printing-works).

## What you need before you start

- Admin access to your computer
- A connected printer (wired or wireless)

#### 1. Connect your printer

##### Wired printers

- If your printer uses a cable, connect it to your computer.
- Wait for Windows to install the required driver.

##### Wireless printers

1. Select **Start** > **Settings** > **Bluetooth & devices** > **Printers & scanners**.
2. Next to **Add a printer or scanner**, select **Add device**.
3. Wait for it to find nearby printers, then locate the one you want to use and select **Add device**.

After this step, your printer is available to the operating system.

#### 2. Confirm the paper and driver settings

Open the printer's preferences in **Printers & scanners** and confirm its paper size and orientation match the labels you will use.

If a label is offset, you may need to adjust the Windows printer settings:

1. Go to **Printers & scanners** settings.
2. Find your label printer and click **Manage**.
3. Add spacing to the unprintable area – you may need to test print a few times to get the spacing right.

After this step, print a Windows test page or manufacturer test label. Continue only when the printer works outside Starshipit.

#### 1. Connect your printer

##### Wired printers

- Connect the USB cable to your Mac.
- If prompted, install the printer software.

##### Wireless printers

- If needed, connect the printer to your Mac with USB for first-time setup.
- Install the printer software and follow the setup assistant to connect to your network.
- Disconnect the cable once setup is complete.

##### Add the printer to your list of available printers

1. Choose Apple menu > **System Settings**.
2. Click **Printers & Scanners** in the sidebar.
3. If you don't see your printer listed, click the **Add Printer, Scanner or Fax** button. A pop-up will appear listing the printers on your local network.
4. When your printer appears in the list, select it, then click **Add**. You may then need to download additional software for the printer to work.

After this step, your printer is available to macOS.

#### 2. Confirm the paper and driver settings

In **Printers & Scanners**, open the printer's options and confirm its paper size and orientation match the labels you will use.

Print a macOS test page or manufacturer test label. Continue only when the printer works outside Starshipit.
