> Find a shipment's tracking number, open its tracking details, and understand when Starshipit creates and updates tracking information.

Find a shipment's tracking number in Starshipit and use its tracking details to check delivery progress or help a customer.

## When a tracking number is created

Starshipit creates the shipment and tracking number when you print a courier label. Reprinting the same label does not create another tracking number.

If the order has not been printed, it may not have a tracking number yet. [Process and print the order](/articles/115000487123-process-an-order-from-import-to-manifest) before looking for its courier tracking details.

## Find an order by tracking number

1. Open the **Search** or **Orders** page in Starshipit.
2. Enter the tracking number in the search field.
3. Open the matching order.
4. Check the shipment details against the order and customer before taking further action.

You can also search by order number, customer name, or customer email. See [Find an order](/articles/9129132440847-find-an-order) for all supported routes, including child-account searches in Classic UI.

## Check delivery progress

Open the printed order to review its tracking details and latest delivery status. The courier remains the source of the delivery events that Starshipit displays.

Tracking events do not always appear immediately. See [Check how often tracking updates](/articles/360000136135-check-how-often-tracking-updates) for courier-specific update frequencies.

## Share tracking with a customer

Starshipit can include the tracking number and tracking link in customer email or SMS notifications. If branded tracking is enabled, the link opens your branded tracking experience; otherwise, it can direct the customer to the courier's tracking page.

## Troubleshoot tracking information

| Problem | What to check |
| --- | --- |
| The order has no tracking number | Confirm that a courier label was successfully created. If printing failed, check whether a shipment exists before trying again. |
| Tracking has not changed | Check the courier's update frequency and the tracking page directly. |
| Search finds the wrong order | Compare both the order number and tracking number before making changes. |
| A label did not physically print | Reprint the existing label if the shipment and tracking number already exist. Do not create another shipment just to retry the paper print. |

For label and shipment failures, see [Troubleshoot printing](/articles/213724603-troubleshoot-printing).
