# Configure branded returns portal rules

Configure branded returns portal rules so customers can only submit return requests that match your returns policy.

## Before you begin

Prepare your returns policy, terms and conditions, return reasons, and the return options you want customers to choose from.

## Add terms and conditions

1. Go to **Settings > Returns > Terms & Conditions**.
2. Tick **Enable Terms & Conditions**.
3. Add your terms and conditions to the template editor.
4. Click **Save**.

After saving, your terms and conditions display in the returns portal.

## Configure returns rules

Use returns rules to block or adjust return requests based on your policy.

Common rules include:

- Accept returns only within 30 days of the order date.
- Block returns for specific SKUs, such as swimwear.
- Allow self-service returns only for domestic orders.
- Use a specific carrier for returns from a specific region.
- Mark returns containing specific items as dangerous goods.

1. Go to **Settings > Returns > Rules**.
2. Select **Add a new rule**.
3. Set the conditions.
4. Set the action.
5. Set the value, if the action needs one.
6. Click **Save**.

After saving, new returns are evaluated against your configured rules.

## Available rule conditions

| Condition group | Examples |
| --- | --- |
| Sender details | Sender contact name, country, country code, postcode, state, suburb or city, street, building, company. |
| Item details | Item SKU, item quantity, total item quantity, item country of manufacture, line item value. |
| Order details | All orders, order created date, order status, order value, order weight, order number, integration, store identifier, tags, their reference. |
| Shipping details | Shipping method, shipping description, PO Box and Parcel Locker orders. |

## Available rule actions

| Action | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Set Authority To Leave** | Allows couriers to leave parcels at the delivery location without a signature. |
| **Set Courier & Product Code** | Assigns a specific courier and product code. |
| **Set Contain Battery** | Flags orders that contain batteries as dangerous goods. |
| **Set Signature Required** | Requires a signature on delivery. |
| **Set Return Address** | Uses a specific address as the return address. |
| **Reject Returns** | Prevents certain items or orders from being returned. |
| **Set Return Cost** | Sets the cost associated with returning an item. |
| **Assign Tags** | Adds tags to the order for categorisation or reporting. |

## Configure return reasons

1. Go to **Settings > Returns > Settings > Returns reason**.
2. Enter each return reason on a new line.
3. Click **Save**.

After saving, customers must choose one of your configured reasons when submitting a return.

## Configure return options

1. Go to **Settings > Returns > Settings > Return Options**.
2. Select the options you want to enable:
   - **Refund to store credit**
   - **Exchange Product**
   - **Refund to the original payment method**
3. Click **Save**.

After saving, only your selected return options are available in the portal.
