> Set up dangerous goods for Border Express shipments in Starshipit.

Starshipit supports sending dangerous goods with Border Express. Before you ship dangerous goods, confirm with Border Express that your account is approved for dangerous goods freight.

You can apply dangerous goods manually on an order, or use rules to apply a dangerous goods type automatically.

## Before you begin

To set up dangerous goods for Border Express, you need:

* Approval from Border Express to send dangerous goods.
* Dangerous goods contact name and phone number.
* Dangerous goods details for each type you want to use, including:
  * UN number
  * Shipping name
  * Class
  * Sub-risk, if required
  * Packing group
  * Package type
  * Quantity
  * Aggregate quantity

If you are unsure which details apply to your products, check your Safety Data Sheet or contact your Border Express account manager.

:::note
Some UN numbers can apply to more than one dangerous goods classification. For example, aerosols under `UN1950` may need extra details such as shipping name, class, and sub-risk so Border Express can identify the goods correctly.
:::

## Add dangerous goods details

1. In Starshipit, go to **Settings** > **Couriers** > **Border Express**.
2. Open the **Dangerous Goods** tab.
3. Enter the dangerous goods contact name and phone number.
4. Add a dangerous goods entry for each dangerous goods type you want to ship.
5. Mark one entry as the default if you want Starshipit to use it when an order is flagged as dangerous goods but no specific type is selected.
6. Click **Save**.

## Apply dangerous goods to an order

You can apply dangerous goods to an order manually from the order details page.

If you select a specific dangerous goods type, Starshipit sends the matching dangerous goods entry to Border Express when the shipment is printed. If you only flag the order as dangerous goods, Starshipit uses the default dangerous goods entry from your Border Express settings.

## Apply dangerous goods using rules

Once you have added dangerous goods entries in your Border Express settings, you can use rules to apply them automatically.

1. In Starshipit, go to **Settings** > **Rules**.
2. Click **Add a new rule**.
3. Add the conditions that identify the dangerous goods orders, such as item SKU.
4. Select the action **Set Dangerous Goods Type**.
5. Select or enter the UN number for the dangerous goods entry you have set up.
6. Click **Save**.

Any rule that references a dangerous goods type that has not been set up in your Border Express settings will be ignored.

## Dangerous goods rates and declaration

When an order is flagged as dangerous goods, Starshipit sends the dangerous goods flag when getting Border Express rates and when creating the shipment.

When printing labels, Starshipit uses the dangerous goods details saved in your Border Express settings to populate the dangerous goods declaration information, including shipping name, class, sub-risk, packing group, package type, quantity, aggregate quantity, and dangerous goods contact phone number.
