> Understand print routing, Desktop App mappings, device printing, and common printer setup questions.

Find quick answers about how Starshipit sends labels and documents to computers, devices, and physical printers.

For the complete setup model, see [Understand how Starshipit printing works](/articles/90200000000155-understand-how-starshipit-printing-works).

<!-- faq:start -->

<!-- faq:question -->What is the difference between Starshipit print settings and Desktop App print settings?<!-- /faq:question -->

Starshipit website print settings choose which connected Desktop App computer receives a routed label or document. Print settings inside the Desktop App choose the physical printer, paper size, orientation, or PDF destination used by that computer.

<!-- faq:question -->Can labels triggered from different Starshipit products use the same Desktop App?<!-- /faq:question -->

Supported Starshipit web, workflow, WMS, and mobile print actions can create labels. Whether they can use a Desktop App route depends on the product and its selected output method. Configure the receiving machine in Starshipit for routed printing, then configure that machine's physical printer in the Desktop App.

Device-local printing, such as AirPrint, bypasses the Desktop App route.

<!-- faq:question -->Do I need the Desktop App to print a label?<!-- /faq:question -->

No. You can download a label PDF and print it manually, use a browser or system print dialogue where supported, or print from a supported mobile device. Use the Desktop App when you want Starshipit to route jobs automatically to a packing-station computer and its configured printer.

<!-- faq:question -->How do I print from multiple computers?<!-- /faq:question -->

Connect each Desktop App computer with a unique, recognisable machine name. In Starshipit **Settings > Printing > Advanced**, assign each label or document type to the computer that should receive it. In the Desktop App on each computer, map that content to a physical printer.

<!-- faq:question -->Do I need to configure a network printer on every computer?<!-- /faq:question -->

Every computer that may print to the network printer must be able to use it through the operating system. Each Desktop App computer also keeps its own local document and label routes, so select the network printer in the Desktop App on every receiving computer that should use it.

<!-- faq:question -->Why did the label reach the right computer but print from the wrong printer?<!-- /faq:question -->

The Starshipit machine route is working, but the local Desktop App route is not the one you expected. Open **Print Settings** in the Desktop App on that computer and check the affected document default or shipping-label-type route.

<!-- faq:question -->What should I do if a tracking number exists but no label printed?<!-- /faq:question -->

Label creation succeeded. Fix the output route or printer problem, then use **Reprint** to send another copy of the existing label. Do not create another shipment just to retry physical printing.

<!-- faq:question -->Where do I change label size and orientation?<!-- /faq:question -->

First choose a supported label format in the relevant courier or Starshipit settings. For Desktop App printing, set the matching paper size and orientation on the local document or shipping-label route. The operating-system printer preferences and loaded label stock must use the same size.

<!-- faq:question -->Why are packing slips printing double-sided?<!-- /faq:question -->

Double-sided printing is normally controlled by the physical printer's operating-system preferences. Change the printer default from duplex to single-sided, then check that the packing-slip route in the Desktop App uses that printer configuration.

<!-- faq:question -->Why is a label blurry or its barcode difficult to scan?<!-- /faq:question -->

Confirm the label is not being scaled, the printer uses the correct media and resolution, and the print head is clean. For thermal printers, also check the darkness and speed settings recommended by the printer manufacturer.
