# Set up free shipping in Starshipit

Use checkout-rate rules to show free shipping based on order value. You can return one free rate, keep express rates alongside free standard shipping, or show live rates below a threshold.

## Enable checkout rates

Before you create a rule, [enable rates at checkout](/articles/rates-at-checkout/set-up-guides/about-live-rates-at-checkout-supported-couriers) on your eCommerce platform so Starshipit rates can appear at checkout.

## Show free shipping above an order-value threshold

To return a free rate for orders above a value such as $100:

1. Go to **Settings > Checkout Rates > Rules**.
2. Select **Add a new rule**.
3. Under **Conditions**, select **Order Value > Greater Than**, then enter your threshold. For example, enter `10,000` for $100 when using Shopify.
4. Under **Action**, select **Set Checkout Rates**.
5. Under **Value**, choose the courier.
6. Select **Free Shipping**.
7. Select **Return this item only**.
8. Click **Save**.

## Offer free standard shipping with express rates

To return free standard shipping while keeping express rates available above the threshold:

1. In **Settings > Advanced Courier Configuration**, enable the standard and express services you want to offer.
2. Go to **Settings > Checkout Rates > Rules** and select **Add a new rule**.
3. Under **Conditions**, select **Order Value > Greater Than**, then enter your threshold. For example, enter `10,000` for $100 when using Shopify.
4. Under **Action**, select **Set Checkout Rates**.
5. Under **Value**, choose the standard courier.
6. Select **Free Shipping**.
7. Leave **Return this item only** unselected.
8. Click **Save**.

## Show live rates below the threshold

Set up live rates, then add a free-shipping rule for orders above the value you choose.

### Configure live rates

1. Go to **Settings > Checkout Rates**.
2. Select **Courier Configuration**.
3. Select **Enable advanced setting view**.
4. Select **Contract Rates** beside your courier.
5. Enable the services you want to display.
6. Set the rate name, margins, and estimated transit times you need.

### Add the free-shipping rule

1. Go to **Settings > Checkout Rates > Rules** and select **Add a new rule**.
2. Under **Conditions**, select **Order Value > Greater Than**, then enter your threshold. For example, enter `10,000` for $100 when using Shopify.
3. Under **Action**, select **Set Checkout Rates**.
4. Under **Value**, choose the courier.
5. Select **Free Shipping**.
6. Select **Return this item only**.
7. Click **Save**.
