# Add or change a payment method

Add a payment method or update an existing one for your Starshipit subscription, then check it has saved before your next payment.

## Before you begin

These steps apply when your subscription is billed directly by Starshipit and your account has access to the billing portal. If you use child accounts, open the parent account that manages billing.

Starshipit accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal. Buy now, pay later methods such as Afterpay are not supported.

If you are choosing your first paid plan, enter the payment details requested during checkout. See [Change your pricing plan](/articles/206705123-change-your-pricing-plan) for that procedure. If Shopify bills your subscription, check the payment arrangement in Shopify rather than following the direct-billing steps below.

## Open the billing portal

1. Go to **Settings > My Account**.
2. Select **Manage Account** to open the billing portal.

1. Open the account menu in the top-right corner and select **[Manage Account](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/manage-account)**.
2. Select **Manage billing**. If your account shows **Account details** instead, open it and select **Manage account** under **Current plan details**.

## Add or update the payment method

1. Select **Payment Methods** in the billing portal.
2. Select **Credit card**, enter your card details and select **Add**, or follow the editing prompts for an existing payment method.
3. For PayPal, select **PayPal** and follow the prompts to authorise your account before returning to Starshipit.
4. Save any changes requested by the portal.

## Check the saved payment method

Reopen **Payment Methods** and check the saved card or PayPal method is the one you intended to use. Adding a payment method does not confirm a plan change; complete the separate plan checkout if you are also changing your subscription.

If the method is missing or the portal shows an error, check that the save or PayPal authorisation finished. If you still need help, [contact Support](/ticket) with the error message. Do not include full card details, passwords or security codes.
