> Add destination-based shipper tax numbers or use rules to select a registration for matching shipments.

Add shipper tax numbers for international shipments, either as destination-based defaults or through rules for matching orders. Starshipit adds the applicable numbers when it prepares the shipment for printing or dispatch.

## Before you begin

- Have the registration number your business or marketplace is authorised to use.
- Confirm the required tax type with your courier for the service and destination you use. A tax type appearing in Starshipit's settings does not mean every courier accepts it.

## Courier support

IOSS is currently supported in Starshipit for the following couriers:

* Australia Post eParcel
* Australia Post MyPost Business
* Asendia
* DHL Express
* DHL eCommerce Asia Pacific
* Deutsche Post
* DPD UK
* DPD Local UK
* NZ Post International
* UPS
* Hermes
* Seko
* Royal Mail

VOEC is supported for shipments where the courier accepts it, including Deutsche Post and DHL Express GMB.

## How it works

Some countries require a tax number to be supplied so taxes are correctly charged to your business. Starshipit supports specifying different tax numbers for each country.

For example, you could set up the following:

* When sending to Australia use your **ABN**.
* When sending to New Zealand use your **GST** number.
* When sending to the UK use your **VAT** number.
* When sending to the EU use your **IOSS** number.
* When sending to Norway use your **VOEC** number.

Starshipit matches tax numbers to the shipment destination, so each order uses the right registration number for that country.

In some cases, you may also need a Sold To (Billing) address with its own tax numbers. See [Set up additional parties and addresses](/articles/international-shipping-compliance/customs-duties/set-up-additional-parties-addresses) for DHL Express.

## Set up your shipper tax numbers

1. In your Starshipit account, go to **Settings** > **Options**.
2. Scroll down to the **Shipper Tax Settings** section.
3. Click **Add New**.
4. Select the **Tax Type**, enter your **Tax Number** and select an **Applicable Destination**.
5. Click **Add**.

Repeat for each required tax number, then confirm the entries show the correct type, number and destination.

## Select a shipper tax number with a rule

Use **Set Shipper Tax Number** when matching shipments need a particular registration, such as a marketplace's IOSS number or a destination-specific VOEC, EORI, VAT or GST number. Choose from the shipper tax types available in the rule editor; the action supports more than IOSS.

1. Go to **Settings > Rules** and click **Add a new rule**.
2. Set conditions that identify the intended shipments, including the destination where relevant. Use integration, shipping method or tags to distinguish marketplaces when needed.
3. Set the **Action** to **Set Shipper Tax Number**.
4. Select the required tax type and enter its tax number.
5. Click **Save**.

For an IOSS rule, select **IOSS - Import One-Stop-Shop**. It applies only when the sender is outside the EU customs union and the destination is inside it. Other tax types use the conditions you configure, so include the appropriate destination rather than relying on an automatic country restriction.

Starshipit evaluates these rules when preparing a shipment for label creation. The first eligible matching shipper tax rule supplies the number and replaces any configured number of the same tax type for that shipment. Other tax types are retained. If no eligible rule matches, the configured defaults remain in use.

## Verify your configuration

Reopen the saved settings or rule and check the type, number and destination or conditions. Use a representative matching shipment to confirm the registration is accepted by your courier. Check the returned customs documents where the courier displays the tax number; contact Support if you cannot confirm which number was transmitted.

You do not need to re-import an unprinted order for a saved shipper tax rule to be evaluated when you create its label. **Run rules now** applies actions that run on import; verify this action when preparing a matching shipment.

If the expected number is missing, check the rule conditions, earlier matching shipper tax rules, IOSS geographic eligibility where applicable, and the courier's supported tax types. See [Rules overview](/articles/115001575803-rules-overview) for general rule setup.
