## How Starshipit works

## Getting started basics

Follow the key steps below to set up Starshipit.

### 1. Set your pickup address for orders

Enter your warehouse, dispatch or company address and contact details for courier collections. These details may be printed on labels depending on your courier and label format.

1. Go to **Settings**.
2. Select **Pickup Address**.
3. Enter your pickup address for collections.
   If you use a PO Box address, make sure you [set up rules](/articles/notifications-branded-tracking-rules-child-accounts/business-rules/how-to-manage-orders-going-to-po-boxes) to ensure you don't accidentally send the order with a carrier that doesn't support PO Boxes.
4. Click **Save**.

### 2. Integrate your couriers

To start shipping, you can integrate one or more of your couriers or use our plain label option. You can do this through the Getting Started guide in the Starshipit app or follow step-by-step instructions for your specific courier.

1. [Getting Started – Starshipit app](https://app2.starshipit.com/onboarding)
2. [Find your courier guide](/categories/couriers)
3. [Set up plain labels](/articles/couriers/plain-label/how-to-use-plain-labels)

### 3. Integrate your platforms

Integrate your eCommerce, WMS or IMS, or accounting platform with Starshipit. Choose from a list of 40+ platforms that integrate directly with Starshipit.

* [Find your platform guide](https://support.starshipit.com/hc/en-us/sections/360000208895-eCommerce-platforms)

You can automatically import sales orders directly from your chosen platform or upload orders via a CSV file. You can also build your own integration using our API.

* [Build your own integration with our API](/developers)

If you work with a platform that we do not integrate with yet, you can also use Zapier as a connector between the two platforms.

* [Set up Zapier](/articles/integrations/accounting-other-platforms/zapier-integration)

### 4. Choose how labels should print and print your first label

By default, Starshipit downloads labels as PDFs. For automatic printing, set up the Desktop App on Windows or Mac, choose that machine for each document type in Starshipit, then map each document type to a physical printer in the Desktop App.

### 5. Test your shipping setup before you go live

Use an order you control and check each handoff before moving live volume into the account:

1. Import one order and confirm its address, items, weight, dimensions and chosen service in **Orders**.
2. Create a label only when you are ready to check the booking and any courier charge. For a workflow test that does not need a courier booking, consider a [plain label](/articles/204697995-use-plain-labels).
3. Confirm the label prints on the intended printer and that any tracking or fulfilment update appears in your selling platform.
4. [Manifest the shipment](/articles/360001997955-manifesting-faqs) if your courier requires it, and check whether you must [book a pickup](/articles/360000133996-book-a-courier-pickup) separately.
5. Check which customer notifications the selling platform, Starshipit and courier sent before enabling the same flow for live orders.

A plain label avoids a courier booking, but the order can still trigger updates to your selling platform or customer notifications. For API integrations, follow the more detailed [testing guidance](/articles/14700000001017-testing-guidance).
