> Step-by-step guide to setting up StarTrack.

Connect your StarTrack account to Starshipit to print labels, book pickups, correct addresses, and send tracking notifications.

If you are interested in StarTrack Courier or AusPost OnDemand please refer to [this article](/articles/couriers/australia-post-ondemand-startrack-courier/set-up-australia-post-on-demand-startrack-courier).

## Before you begin

To set up the integration, you will need the following details:

* StarTrack Account number
* StarTrack API key
* StarTrack API secret
* If you are missing any of these credentials, follow [these steps](/articles/couriers/australia-post/generate-an-australia-post-startrack-api-key-and-secret) to source them.
* For pricing and label printing to work correctly, you will need to [set up your StarTrack unit types](/articles/couriers/startrack/about-startrack-unit-types).

## Setting up your StarTrack account in Starshipit

### 1. Add the StarTrack API in Starshipit

1. Go to **Settings** > **Carrier** > **Add a new courier** > **StarTrack**.
2. Tick **Enable StarTrack.**
3. Enter your Account Number, API Key, and Password (API Secret).
4. Click on **Lookup** to get your mailing location ID.
5. Click **Save**.
### 2. Add your product code

To complete the setup of your StarTrack integration, you need to enter your product codes. If you don't know your product codes, please contact your StarTrack Account Manager.

:::important
Only add product codes that are enabled on your StarTrack contract. StarTrack can accept a shipment using a product without contract pricing and apply a generic, non-contracted rate, so a successful label does not confirm that the product belongs to your contract.

## Configure StarTrack settings

| Setting | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Enable StarTrack | Turns the StarTrack connection on. |
| StarTrack Account No | Identifies your StarTrack account. |
| MLID | Identifies your mailing location. Use **Lookup MLID** after entering the account details. |
| API Key and API Password | Authenticate the StarTrack API connection. |
| Current Consignment Increment | Sets the next consignment number. It updates when a label is printed. |
| Integration | Choose the API mode. New customers should use the API; Legacy is available for existing accounts. |
| Use Staging URL | Uses the test endpoint. Keep this off for live shipments. |
| Authority To Leave | Applies authority to leave by default. |
| Safe Drop | Applies safe-drop handling by default where supported. |
| Display SKU in label | Prints the SKU on the StarTrack label. |
| Display Package Name on labels (instead of SKUs) | Prints the package name instead of the SKU. These two display options are mutually exclusive. |
| Set Movement Type to Transfer for All Consignments | Sends Transfer as the movement type for every consignment. |
| Automatically Manifest | Manifests orders automatically at the end of the day. |
| Call the API directly | Makes StarTrack API calls directly instead of asynchronously. |
| Product codes | Add the StarTrack services supplied by your account manager. |
| Dangerous Goods | Maintain the default, UN number, technical name, class, subsidiary risk, packing group, packaging, quantity, and net weight for each dangerous-goods entry. |
| Tools > Get Details from API | Loads account details using the current credentials. |

1. Click on **Add a new product code**.
2. Fill Product code with the specific code given by StarTrack.
3. Fill the Name field with whatever makes sense to you, e.g. "Premium" for the PRM service.
4. Click **Add**.
## Troubleshooting Error

### Upon clicking **Lookup**, the response is: "The request failed authentication" or similar

This means your account hasn't been activated properly. Please contact AusPost/StarTrack support at [customer_connectivity@auspost.com.au](mailto:customer_connectivity@auspost.com.au) with your API details or contact your StarTrack account manager directly.

:::note
There are now two special service movement codes available in the StarTrack API: Tailgate RET and RE2. While you can create shipping data and labels via Starshipit, the mechanism that alerts the special services team at StarTrack is not in place. Please contact your StarTrack representative to find out what process you need to follow to book special services pickups.
