> Decide how to handle stock after a return is received, including moving it to sellable stock, quarantine, or a write-off workflow.

Processing a return adds stock to the selected WMS location. Inspect the item before making it available for another order.

## Choose the right outcome

| Inspection result | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| The item is sellable | Move it from the returns location to normal storage or a pick face. |
| The item needs review, repair or supplier approval | Keep it in a quarantine location so it is not allocated to new orders. |
| The item cannot be sold | Record the approved write-off using your stock adjustment process. |

## Move stock after inspection

Use the standard stock movement workflow to move approved stock into its sellable location. Check the product, quantity and destination before confirming the movement, then verify the stock is available in [View inventory and stock levels](/articles/14700000000014-inventory-dashboard-and-stock-visibility).

For unsellable items, only complete a stock adjustment once the responsible person has approved the reason and quantity. [Adjust stock and investigate stock movements](/articles/14700000000020-stock-integrity-and-adjustments) explains how to keep the audit trail clear.

:::important
Do not move uninspected returns directly to a pick face. Keeping them in returns or quarantine until inspection avoids allocating potentially damaged stock to a new order.
