Overview
Starshipit WMS includes a unified search that lets you find almost anything in the system from a single input — without knowing which section it lives in. You can search across orders, products, inventory, locations, purchase orders, suppliers, packages, process logs, and settings.
Where to find search
Unified search is the main dashboard landing page at wms.starshipit.com/dashboard. When the dashboard is idle (no jobs or notifications requiring immediate attention), the search interface is displayed prominently to encourage quick lookups.
This is a dedicated search page, not a persistent top-bar search box. Navigate to the dashboard to start a search.
What you can search
A single search query returns results across all of the following:
| Result type | What you can find |
|---|---|
| Jobs | Pick jobs, pack jobs, putaway jobs, kitting jobs, and replenishment jobs |
| Starshipit orders | Orders synced from your Starshipit account |
| Products | SKUs, product names, and barcodes |
| Inventory | Stock at specific locations (linked from product results) |
| Locations | Warehouse bins, benches, staging docks, and other location types |
| Purchase orders | POs by PO number, supplier, or status |
| Suppliers | Supplier records by name |
| Packages | Shipping packages associated with completed orders |
| Process logs | System events and error entries |
| Settings | Settings pages and configuration options |
How search works
- Search starts returning results after 2 characters are entered.
- Results are permission-filtered — users only see results they have access to based on their role. A warehouse picker will not see settings or admin sections, for example.
- Results are grouped by type and update as you type.
Typical use cases
Finding a specific order quickly Type the order number or customer reference. The matching order appears in results and you can navigate directly to its detail page.
Looking up a product by SKU or barcode Type the SKU or scan a barcode. WMS shows the matching product record with a link to its inventory position.
Checking a location Type the location name or barcode. WMS shows the matching location and a summary of what is stored there.
Investigating a process log issue Type keywords from an error message or job reference. Matching process log entries appear in results so you can jump directly to the relevant event.
Finding a setting Type a keyword related to what you want to configure (for example, "replenishment" or "receiving"). WMS shows matching settings pages.
Tips for effective searching
- Use short, specific terms. A SKU code or order number returns more focused results than a long phrase.
- Scan rather than type for barcodes. Unified search accepts barcode scanner input — scan a product or location barcode to jump straight to the right record.
- Check process logs when something looks wrong. If an order or product is behaving unexpectedly, searching in process logs can show you system events leading up to the issue.
