Before you start

Before enabling Starshipit WMS, make sure you have:

  • An active Starshipit account.
  • Admin (or equivalent) access to Settings in Starshipit.
  • Products set up in Starshipit with SKUs (barcodes recommended for scanning workflows).
  • If you use multiple Starshipit child accounts: clarity on which account will own the primary WMS instance and which accounts, if any, should point to that instance.

Step 1: Add the Starshipit WMS integration

  1. In Starshipit, go to Settings > Integrations > Add a new integration.
  2. Under Inventory, Warehouse or Retail Management Platform, select Starshipit WMS.

Step 2: Configure the integration options

When adding the integration, configure the following:

Enable Sending Order Events to Starshipit WMS This must be ticked. It ensures orders and shipment events flow from Starshipit into WMS so the warehouse can allocate and fulfil them.

Expand WMS bundle items into their components when printing shipments (optional) Enable this if you use exploding bundles and need component products to appear on shipping documents (for example, on customs declarations).

Choose a WMS Override (optional) Use this if you want the current Starshipit account to share a WMS instance with a different Starshipit account.

Note

Example: You have two child accounts — one for B2B and one for B2C — both shipping from the same warehouse. You can point both accounts to a single WMS instance using WMS Override.

Step 3: Save and open WMS

  1. Click Save to enable the integration.
  2. Open wms.starshipit.com and sign in using your Starshipit credentials.

Signing in

Sign in at wms.starshipit.com using your Starshipit username and password.

If you cannot sign in, confirm:

  • The WMS integration is enabled in the correct Starshipit account.
  • You are using the right account environment (for example, the correct child account).

Initial setup steps

Once you can access WMS, work through these steps before processing real orders:

1. Sync and review products

  1. Go to Products in WMS.
  2. Click the menu and choose a sync option to import products from your Starshipit account.
  3. For each key product, review and set:
    • Bundle configuration (exploding or require-stock)
    • Tracking type (Standard, Batch, or Serial)
    • Allocation strategy (FIFO, LIFO, FEFO, or LEFO)
    • Unit-of-measure relationships (if you buy in cartons and sell in eaches)

Getting product configuration right early avoids receiving errors and allocation issues later. See Products and inventory configuration for details.

2. Set up warehouse locations

  1. Go to Locations in WMS.
  2. Create your core locations:
    • Pick faces — forward-picking bins for fast order fulfilment.
    • Bulk storage — reserve stock used to replenish pick faces.
    • Staging docks — where inbound deliveries land before putaway.
    • Packing benches — stations where orders are packed and shipped.
    • Special locations — returns, quarantine, quality control, equipment/trolleys.
  3. For pick faces, set minimum and maximum capacity if you plan to use automated replenishment.

See Locations and warehouse setup for naming conventions, barcodes and layout options.

3. Seed your starting stock

If you are migrating from another system or setting up a fresh warehouse, import your current stock levels via the starting stock page:

  1. Go to wms.starshipit.com/dashboard/setup/starting-stock.
  2. Download the import template and fill in your current stock quantities and locations.
  3. Upload the completed file to seed the warehouse.

4. Test an end-to-end order

  1. Create a test order in your ecommerce platform or Starshipit.
  2. Confirm it appears in WMS under Orders.
  3. Release the order to create a pick job.
  4. Pick, pack and ship the order, then verify:
    • Inventory is reduced correctly in WMS.
    • The order is marked as shipped in both Starshipit and WMS.

Installing the mobile app

Starshipit WMS has companion apps for handheld devices:

  • iOS — in WMS, go to Settings > Apps > Mobile Apps and click Download for iOS.
  • Android — find links in the Apps section under Settings.

Mobile devices are automatically detected and redirected to a mobile-optimised experience when accessing WMS from a phone or tablet.

FAQ

You should complete at least products sync and location setup before processing real orders. Without locations, WMS cannot allocate stock to specific bins. Without correct product configuration, tracking and allocation rules will not behave as expected.

Yes. Use the WMS Override option in the integration settings to point multiple Starshipit child accounts to a single WMS instance when they share the same warehouse and inventory.

Yes. WMS can run alongside your existing Starshipit pick/pack flows while you set up and test. See Running WMS alongside Starshipit for hybrid and headless models.
