Starshipit WMS is a warehouse management system designed to complement your existing Starshipit setup. It helps you track inventory, manage warehouse locations, and control how stock moves from inbound receiving through to outbound fulfilment.
Once enabled, Starshipit WMS connects directly to your Starshipit account. Orders, shipments and key events are kept in sync, so you can continue to use your existing Starshipit automations, rules and carrier integrations while the WMS manages what happens inside the warehouse.
You access the WMS at wms.starshipit.com.
What is the difference between an IMS and a WMS?
Many businesses start with an Inventory Management System (IMS), which focuses on keeping stock figures accurate. An IMS answers: "How much stock do I have?"
A Warehouse Management System (WMS) goes further. It manages the physical operations of your warehouse — where stock is stored, how it moves, and how orders are picked, packed and shipped. A WMS answers: "Where is my stock, and how should it move through the warehouse?"
| IMS | WMS | |
|---|---|---|
| Tracks quantities (on hand, available, committed) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Tracks stock by warehouse location | ✓ | |
| Manages purchase orders and inbound receiving | ✓ | |
| Guided picking and packing workflows | ✓ | |
| Replenishment from bulk to pick-face | ✓ | |
| Batch, serial and expiry tracking | ✓ | |
| Stocktakes and cycle counts | ✓ | |
| Full stock movement audit trail | ✓ |
Starshipit WMS is a full WMS with integrated inventory management. It combines stock-level visibility with physical warehouse workflows — all tightly linked to your existing Starshipit account.
How Starshipit WMS connects to Starshipit
Once you enable the WMS integration in Starshipit:
- Starshipit remains the system of record for orders, shipments, carrier configuration and label printing.
- Starshipit WMS becomes the system of record for inventory, warehouse locations, putaway, picking, packing and stock movements.
Key events flow between the two systems automatically:
- When an order is created or updated in Starshipit, it appears in WMS for allocation and fulfilment.
- When an order is shipped in Starshipit, WMS finalises stock movements and marks the order as shipped.
- When stock is received or adjusted in WMS, inventory levels are kept accurate and optionally written back to Shopify.
What Starshipit WMS includes
Starshipit WMS covers the full warehouse lifecycle:
- Warehouse setup — flexible location structures with barcodes, capacity rules, and multi-zone support.
- Products — centralised catalogue with bundle, kit, batch, serial and unit-of-measure support.
- Inbound — supplier and purchase order management, mobile receiving, staged putaway.
- Outbound — order allocation, single and batch picking, packing benches, label generation.
- Inventory management — real-time stock dashboard, stocktakes, cycle counts, adjustments, replenishment.
- Returns — quarantine and returns locations, restocking workflows, write-offs.
- Reporting — fulfilment performance, inbound receipts, staff productivity, restocking forecasts.
- Mobile app — handheld execution for picking, receiving, putaway, kitting and cycle counts.
Who is Starshipit WMS for?
Starshipit WMS is suited to businesses that:
- Ship from a physical warehouse and need to track exactly where stock is.
- Receive stock from suppliers and want purchase order visibility.
- Run picking and packing workflows with multiple team members.
- Need batch, serial or expiry tracking for regulatory or operational reasons.
- Want inventory accuracy without a separate, disconnected IMS.
Starshipit WMS is not required to use Starshipit. If you handle fulfilment entirely within Starshipit's existing pick/pack tools and do not need location-level inventory control, you can continue to do so.
