Shipping Zones let you create reusable destination groups for postcode or region-based logic. You can reference these zones in Rules, Checkout Rate Rules, and Customise Rates, ensuring your shipping setup stays consistent and easy to maintain across your Starshipit account.
Features
Shipping Zones provide a single source of truth for destination-based rules. When you update a zone, all linked rules and rate configurations update automatically. This reduces duplication and helps you maintain consistency across your account.
- Managed at the parent account level.
- Available for reference in child accounts.
- Supported in both the Classic UI and UI 2.0.
- Included on all plans.
Setting up Shipping Zones
Create a new zone
- Go to Settings > Shipping Zones > New Zone.
- Enter a clear name (for example, Sydney Metro, North Island, or Rural WA).
- Add at least one destination condition using:
- Postcodes
- Suburb
- State Codes
- Country
Destination condition formatting
- Comma separation: Separate postcodes with commas (e.g.
1000,1010). - Exclusions: Prefix with
!(e.g.!2500). - Ranges: Use a dash (
-) for postcode ranges (e.g.2000-2005).
Example
This zone includes postcodes 0100, 1011, and all postcodes between 2000–2999, except 2500:
0100,1011,2000-2999,!2500
Using Shipping Zones
Once created, you can use zones in several areas:
- Checkout Rate Rules: Offer specific checkout rates for selected zones.
- Rules: Automate courier selection or other actions based on zone.
- Customise Rates: Apply margins to courier rates per zone. Ideal for region-based courier pricing. Learn more about Customise Rates.
Examples
Example 1: Urban vs Rural
- Zone 1: Sydney Metro — postcodes
2000–2234 - Zone 2: Rural NSW — postcodes
2235–2999 - Use Checkout Rate Rules to offer cheaper courier options in Metro and limit options in Rural areas.
Example 2: Country-specific courier assignment
- Zone: NZ North Island — country
New Zealand, postcodes0000–6999 - Create a rule to automatically assign a specific service to all North Island orders.
Example 3: Excluding postcodes
- Zone: Melbourne Metro — postcodes
3000–3207with exclusions!3058,!3060 - Apply a flat $15 rate in Customise Rates for this zone; excluded postcodes fall back to national pricing.
Important Considerations
- Child Accounts: Only parent accounts can configure or update zones, but child accounts can reference them.
- Overlapping Zones: An order can only match one zone. It’s assigned to the first zone (checking from the top of the table) that meets the conditions. Use Suburb and State fields for more precise targeting.
- Postcode Ranges: Ranges are not supported for alphanumeric postcodes. List these individually.
- Deleting Zones: You can’t delete a zone that’s currently used in a rule or rate.
- Automatic Updates: Any update to a zone automatically applies to all linked rules and rate configurations.
