Set up your dangerous goods details in Starshipit, then assign them to NZ Post orders using tags or product SKUs. The steps below cover domestic and international shipments, including the different declaration requirements. ## Before you begin - Get approval from your NZ Post account manager to send dangerous goods. Follow [NZ Post's dangerous goods requirements](https://www.nzpost.co.nz/business/shipping-in-nz/sending-dangerous-goods) and the types, quantities and services approved for your account. - Connect [NZ Post Domestic](/articles/203806459-set-up-nz-post-domestic) or [NZ Post International](/articles/204485655-set-up-nz-post-international), depending on where you ship. - Have the product's safety data sheet ready so you can enter the correct dangerous goods details. ## Add dangerous goods details 1. Go to **Settings > Couriers** and select **NZ Post Domestic** or **NZ Post International**. 2. Open the **Dangerous Goods** tab. 3. Enter your **Signatory details**. These apply to all dangerous goods entries. 4. Select **Add new** to create an entry. 5. Complete the required fields using the product's safety data sheet. 6. Select **Save**. 7. Reopen the entry to check the saved details before using it on an order. ## Assign dangerous goods to orders ### Use a UN number tag Create a tag that exactly matches the UN number configured in your NZ Post dangerous goods settings: 1. Go to **Settings > [Tags](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/tags)**. 2. Select **Add New**. 3. Enter the configured **UN Number** as the tag name. 4. Select **Save**. You can add this tag in Starshipit or import it from Shopify with **Import Tags from Shopify** enabled. You only need one matching tag source. To apply it to an order: 1. Open the order details. 2. Find **Tags** below **Items** in Classic UI, or in the right panel in UI 2.0. 3. Select the matching UN number tag, or enter it manually. 4. For **NZ Post Domestic**, select the **DG add-on**. 5. Print the label. Starshipit sends the dangerous goods details matching the tag to NZ Post. ### Assign NZ Post Domestic dangerous goods by SKU In UI 2.0, use a Product Catalogue mapping when the same products are always dangerous goods. This option applies to **NZ Post Domestic**, when the mapping is available in your Product Catalogue. 1. Add the NZ Post dangerous goods entry using the setup steps above. 2. Go to **Settings > [Product Catalogue](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/product-catalogue)** and open the product. 3. Assign its dangerous goods type to the matching NZ Post entry, then save the product. 4. Import or open an order containing that SKU. 5. Review the **Dangerous Goods** panel before printing. For a single-package shipment with valid item weights, Starshipit calculates each mapped type's weight from the item weight and quantity being shipped. Items using the same entry are combined; non-dangerous items and packaging weight are excluded. If item weights are missing or the shipment has multiple packages, it uses the package weight instead. Check the declaration before dispatch. SKU mappings take precedence over order tags and defaults. Without a SKU mapping, Starshipit uses the tag or default workflow. You can review and adjust the details before printing. ### Apply tags with a rule 1. Go to **Settings > [Rules](https://next.starshipit.com/settings/rules)**. 2. Select **Add New Rule**. 3. Choose the condition that identifies the relevant orders, such as a matching SKU. 4. Select **Assign Tags** as the action. 5. Select the configured UN number tag in **Value**. 6. Select **Save**. The rule applies the tag to matching orders when they import. ### Use a default entry You can mark one dangerous goods entry as the **default**. Starshipit uses it when the **DG add-on** is selected and there is no matching SKU mapping or UN number tag. ## Check the declaration ### NZ Post Domestic When you print labels, Starshipit downloads the **Dangerous Goods Declaration Form** as a PDF using your dangerous goods settings. Check the details, then print and sign two copies for dispatch. ### NZ Post International Starshipit does not generate a separate declaration form. The dangerous goods details appear on the shipping label. Check for the **ECLB** indicator when sending an eligible lithium-battery shipment. ## FAQs How do I confirm that my account is enabled for dangerous goods? Ask your NZ Post account manager to confirm approval for your account and services. For NZ Post Domestic, **Dangerous Goods** should also be available as an add-on in your settings. How many dangerous goods products can I send together? Follow the types and quantities approved by NZ Post for your account and service. Confirm these with your NZ Post account manager before combining products. Which dangerous goods can I declare for NZ Post International? NZ Post International supports declarations for lithium batteries packed with or contained in equipment: **UN3481** for lithium-ion batteries and **UN3091** for lithium metal batteries. Service and destination restrictions apply; confirm that NZ Post accepts your shipment before printing.
